Steven Reineke celebrated his tenth anniversary as Music Director of The New York Pops during the orchestra's current 2018-19 season. Steven is only the second person to hold the position of Music Director of The New York Pops, which was founded by Skitch Henderson in 1983, and is the largest independent pops orchestra in the United States and the only professional symphonic orchestra in New York City specializing in popular music. Carnegie Hall Executive and Artistic Director Clive Gillinson congratulated Reineke on his achievements at The New York Pops 2018-19 season opening concert, Roll Over Beethoven, on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall.

Additionally, a drawing of Reineke by renowned Broadway caricaturist Ken Fallin was unveiled at the reception following the concert.

Honorary committee members for Reineke's tenth anniversary celebration included co-chair Megan Hilty, co-chair Kelli O'Hara, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, and Georgia Stitt and Jason Robert Brown.

"When Steven approached us about being honored at The New York Pops' 29th Birthday Gala, he was still relatively new to New York, but was already a rising star," wrote composer and lyricist team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Once On This Island, Ragtime, Seussical). "We were thrilled to work with him to put together a major concert of our work in 2011. To this day, we will never forget watching Steven lead that great orchestra in a concert of songs we'd written - his honest, genuine commitment to our music was truly touching. Now, almost seven years later, he is celebrating ten years at the helm of one of New York City's most important cultural institutions-The New York Pops!"

"Steven's artistry and dedication are unrivaled," wrote composer and lyricist team Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg (Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, The Pirate Queen). "We both travel the world, working with hundreds of people who bring our musicals to life, and it is rare to find a talent like Steven. We offer Steven a hearty congratulations on his tenth anniversary as Music Director and Conductor of The New York Pops."

Under Reineke's continued leadership, The New York Pops annually gives a six concert series and a festive Gala performance at Carnegie Hall, in addition to performing during the summer at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. Some of the highlights of Steven's career leading The New York Pops include: the Carnegie Hall debuts of Laura Benanti, Stephanie J. Block, Nikki M. James, Caissie Levy, Karen Olivo, Andrew Rannells, and Adrienne Warren; concerts commemorating the centennials of Johnny Mercer and Frank Sinatra, Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday, Stephen Schwartz's 65th birthday, and the 50th anniversary of Judy Garland's famed concert at Carnegie Hall; and his first concert as Music Director featuring Wayne Brady in the music of Sammy Davis, Jr. and Sam Cooke.
