The Color Purple star LaChanze and other performers from the hit musical turned out to Angus McIndoe on January 10th for a listening party. Attendees heard tracks from the mastered CD of the show, which will be officially released on January 24th.
The Color Purple, which opened at the Broadway Theatre on December 1st, 2005, is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker that also inspired
the 1985 Steven Speilberg film. The Color Purple features a score by
Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, and a book by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Marsha Norman; Gary Griffin directs. The Color Purple stars LaChanze, Renee Elise Goldsberry (who will soon leave the show due to her pregnancy), Felicia P. Fields, Kingsley Leggs, Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, Brandon Victor Dixon and Krisha Marcano, among others. Oprah Winfrey, who co-starred in the film, is among the producers of the show.
