Yesterday, June 1, Marina Abramovic closed her 'The Artist is Present' exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. A closing celebration, hosted by fashion house Givenchy at the MoMA drew a crowd of some of New York and entertainment's finest, including Alan Rickman, Liv Tyler, Christina Ricci, and Ciara. BroadwayWorld brings you coverage of the closing celebration below.
On of MoMA's most popular special exhibits, 'The Artist is Present' is a "performance retrospective" that "traces the prolific career of Marina Abramovi? (Yugoslav, b. 1946) with approximately fifty works spanning over four decades of her early interventions and sound pieces, video works, installations, photographs, solo performances, and collaborative performances made with Ulay (Uwe Laysiepen). In an endeavor to transmit the presence of the artist and make her historical performances accessible to a larger audience, the exhibition includes the first live re-performances of Abramovi?'s works by other people ever to be undertaken in a museum setting."
