Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) and the Board of Directors (Tom Tuft, Chairman) have embarked on a $50 million Anniversary Campaign to ensure the future of the 50- year- old not-for-profit institution. The campaign was announced last night at Roundabout's Spring Gala at the Waldorf Astoria, honoring six-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald and Chairman Tom Tuft.
"The 50th Anniversary Campaign will ensure that all we have built will endure and that we will always be at the forefront, a leader in the field, to entertain, educate, and inspire. It will allow for the continued growth of theatrical programming and artistic risk-taking to better serve the art form, an expanded commitment to the NYC public school students and their teachers, and sustained state-of- the-art theatres," notes Todd Haimes, Roundabout's Artistic Director.
In celebration of the company's landmark 50th anniversary, the Board of Directors launched this $50 million campaign to increase its Board Designated Fund. Similar to a traditional endowment, the fund will provide funds for expanding programming in response to the evolving needs of our community of artists and audiences, while returning interest to support Roundabout's annual work. Of the nearly $32 million already raised, lead gifts include The Kaplen Brothers Fund, Tom and Diane Tuft, Katheryn Patterson and Tom Kempner, The Bok Family Foundation, Roxanne and Scott L. Bok Trustees, and Stephanie and Ron Kramer among many other generous donors.
Since 1965, Roundabout Theatre Company has grown from humble beginnings in a small basement theatre to one of the nation's premiere not-for-profit theatre companies. The company presents work on five stages, reaching more than 1 million theatergoers and employing hundreds of artists each year.
Roundabout Theatre Company's 50th Anniversary Season celebrates the company's numerous accomplishments and vision for the future with bold new productions of classic plays, such as a revival of Roundabout's first musical She Loves Me, and new work by some of the country's most exciting young talent.
