The much anticipated 2011-2012 Mirvish Subscription Season was announced yesterday, and the stars came out in support of the event. David Mirvish announced a season that is "practically perfect in every way" - a smart reference to one of the biggest shows to be coming to Toronto later this year, Mary Poppins. The announcement was held at the beautiful Princess of Wales theatre, with invites and official correspondence taking on a Mary Poppins theme. BWW was thrilled to be on hand to capture exclusive photos of the event to share with its readers.
The fabulous new season includes a North American Premiere, Canadian Premieres and both pre-Broadway and pre-West End shows. Star-studded and well diversified, it features both plays and musicals as well as a show so special that it gets its own theatre (The Railway Children) All in all there is something for everyone, which I think is what makes this new season such a winner. The four bonus shows are also spectacular, with something aimed for every type of Canadian Theatre-Goer.
The Subscription Season includes:
- The North American Premiere of The Railway Children (which will be housed at the new Roundhouse Theatre being built at Steamwhistle Brewery)
- The pre-Broadway run of Private Lives starring Canadian Kim Cattrall
- The pre-West End run of the UK hit Chess, the Musical
- The Canadian Premiere of Mary Poppins
- The Toronto Premiere of Blue Dragon
- The Canadian Premiere of War Horse
- The Direct from Broadway Smash-Hit HAIR
In addition to the seven subscription shows, Mirvish also announced four bonus shows:
- Ghost Stories
- Good Mourning Mrs. Brown
- Women Fully Clothed: Older & Hotter
- 2 Pianos, 4 Hands
