Tony-nominated composer Paul Gordon made his New York nightclub debut at Joe's Pub with an evening featuring an eclectic selection of his pop and theatre songs including several from his five-time Tony-nominated Broadway musical Jane Eyre on Monday, October 15 at 9:30PM at Joe's Pub.
Performers and guests included Lianne Marie Dobbs (Emma), Melissa Dye (Into the Woods), Sara Farb (Original Toronto production of Jane Eyre), Richard Kind (TV's "Spin City," The Producers), Jason Kravits (The Drowsy Chaperone), Sarah Litzsinger (Evita, Tastiskank), Dani Marcus (Emma), Jayne Patterson (Jane Eyre), Travis Poelle (Emma), Kate Reinders (Wicked, Gypsy), Marla Schaffel (Tony nominated for Jane Eyre) and Jennifer Waiser (The Pirate Queen).
Gordon's Jane Eyre (co-written with John Caird) ran on Broadway in 2001 where it was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical. Tony-nominated for playing the title role, Marla Schaffel will again sing a few of the show's signature songs. The concert will also feature selections from: Gordon's Emma, which recently had its world premiere at Theaterworks in Palo Alto, California where it became the highest grossing show in the theatre's 38-year history; Daddy-Long-Legs, his latest collaboration with director John Caird; and The Front (Music and Lyrics by Paul Gordon and Jay Gruska, Book by Seth Friedman), based on the 1976 film about the Hollywood Blacklist, which had it's first reading at Manhattan Theatre Club in April. This concert at Joe's Pub will feature the first public performance of many songs from these shows.
The evening is directed by Nell Balaban (The Front) with musical direction by Laura Bergquist, and produced by Jayson Raitt. More information can be found at www.joespub.com.
