Saturday night, November 19th, Melissa Errico made her long awaited return to solo concert-ing at the newly renovated (beautifully) Joe's Pub. The venue was packed with family, friends and fans who, pretty much, went wild when she walked up onto the stage. She was accompanied by an unbelieveably expert trio of musicians led by the legendary John Oddo. The evening's music program was extremely well chosen and beautifully performed and sung. Errico's patter, storytelling and anecdotal skills were also on show, in top form and wildly entertaining.
Here is the song list:
1. I Was Born In Love With You- music by Michel Legrand, Lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
2. The Summer Knows- music by Michel Legrand, Lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
3. What About Today? - by David Shire.
4. Feed The Birds- from the film of MARY POPPINS, The Sherman Brothers.
5. It's an Art / Meadowlark – from the Broadway Musicals WORKING and THE BAKER'S WIFE, by Stephen Schwartz.
6. I Saw Him Once/ I Dreamed A Dream – from LES MISERABLES ,Claude-Michel Schonberg, Alain Boublil.
7. Martina - Michel Legrand Lyrics by Hal Shaper.
8. How Do You Keep The Music Playing? Music by Michel Legrand, lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
9. The Mist/ The Heart Is Slow To Learn – from the Broadway Musical DRACULA - by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Don Black & Christopher Hampton.
10. His Eyes, Her Eyes from the film THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR - music by Michel Legrand, lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
11. Celui-La - music by Michel Legrand, lyrics by Eddy Marnay.
12. Not Getting Married Today - by Stephen Sondheim from the Broadway Musical COMPANY.
13. The Boy Next Door- from the film MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane.
14. White Christmas from the film and stage musical, WHITE CHRISTMAS, by Irving Berlin.
There were so many high points that it would be hard to choose any particular one, but can say with certainty that she re-invented Stephen Schwartz's MEADOWLARK and THE BOY NEXT DOOR will never be the same. She also stopped the show cold with David Shire's WHAT ABOUT TODAY? In addition, the audience couldn't get enough of her telling of her experience on stage in DRACULA The Musical.
We're STILL laughing.
The audience was peppered with familiar faces, including Tony Walton, John McEnroe and wife Patty Smyth, as well as husband Patrick McEnroe, John Patrick Shanley, Malcom Gets, her Director, Richard Jay-Alexander and many others, as you will see here in our photos from Saturday night.
If you weren't there or missed the live stream, you can see it by clicking here.
Also, if you haven't heard her sing Michel Legrand's songs, click here for the CD and hear the Legrand selections she sang in her show and more.Photos by Peter James Zielenski
