The York Theatre Company, and its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, recently presented the premiere of Swing Wings, with ook & Lyrics by William Schermerhorn and Music by Milton Delugg and Mary Ehlinger at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The Developmental Reading Series presents some 40 readings and workshops of new musicals by emerging and established authors throughout the year. a vital part of the writing process. The series often serves as an incubator for shows to be considered for Mainstage productions, thus serving the York's unique mission of taking new musicals through the complete development process to full production.
Swing Wings, a new musical, featured direction by Randy Redd and musical direction by Adam Podd. The seven-member cast features Will Burton, Liam Forde, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Johnny Kinnaird, Ian Lowe, Taylor Rathus and Haley Swindal.
Swing Wings is based on the World War II experiences of songwriters Frank Loesser, Milton Delugg and the fresh-faced Army Air Corps musicians who created the era's signature radio broadcasts. In a time of patriotic sacrifice, they forged a bond that could not be broken. The military marches to a beat; these boys made it swing.
