The Headstrong Project hosted Words of War in support of comprehensive mental healthcare for military veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. This presentation of wartime poetry, literature, theater and letters articulate the exuberance and ideals that drive men to war, the thrill and horror of combat, the difficulties of returning home, and the experience of family members worried about their loved one at war. Iconic wartime images will be projected during the presentation. Check out photos from the special event below!
Under the leadership of Zach Iscol, a combat decorated former Marine officer and Iraq veteran of the Battle of Fallujah, and Program Director Dr. Ann Beeder, a leading psychiatric and public health expert, The Headstrong Project has launched a long term project to provide cost-free, stigma-free, and bureaucracy-free mental healthcare to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with care being delivered at Weill Cornell Medical College.
This program brings together leading research scientists and clinicians in PTSD to develop a manual, treatment program, curriculum, and certification program to train, develop, implement, and fund a nationwide network of mental healthcare providers who can treat Iraq and Afghanistan veterans especially in rural areas outside the reach of the VA. Concurrently, through partnerships with Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran Service organizations, Headstrong is recruiting veterans and active duty and reserve service members in need to receive care free of charge.
