Cast members from the Tony Award-Winning revival of HAIR joined members from Broadway Kids Care (BKC) to tie-dye bandanas for charity on Wednesday, July 1st at the Fireman's Park 235 West 48th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue). BroadwayWorld.com joined all the fun for the very special cause along with the gang from HAIR and kids from BKC!
BKC members tie-dyed bandanas for young cancer patients at New York's Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. The cast of HAIR lent a hand and helped the BKC members get into the tie-dye ("hippie") spirit.
Broadway Kids Care was founded in 2007 by Kelly Gonda, President of East of Doheny as a way to bring together children from current and past Broadway shows while allowing them the opportunity to perform community service.
During its brief history, BKC's members have participated in a variety of charitable works including: creating Halloween and Easter baskets for the children of Freedom House NYC, knitting scarves for the residents at the Lillian Booth Actor's Home, making peace/friendship bracelets for the troops in Iraq, creating hats for children undergoing chemotherapy at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and raising money for the UNICEF / Pampers One Pack=One Vaccine Program, among other projects. HAIR opened to rave reviews on March 31, 2009 at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th) and won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. Directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Karole Armitage, HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot.
