The Color Purple opened on Thursday, December 1, 2005 and BroadwayWorld was there to capture the Gypsy Robe Ceremony. The colorful Gypsy Robe, embellished with mementos from Broadway musicals, is presented to the cast member who has the most Broadway chorus credits. For The Color Purple, the Robe was presented to J.C. Montgomery, whose credits include The Boys from Syracuse, Thou Shalt Not, Swing!, Parade, and Smokey Joe's Cafe.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker that inspired the 1985 Steven Speilberg film, The Color Purple features a score by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, and a book by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Marsha Norman; Gary Griffin directs. The Color Purple stars LaChanze, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Felicia P. Fields, Kingsley Leggs, Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, Brandon Victor Dixon and Krisha Marcano, among others.

Tickets for The Color Purple can be purchased by calling (212) 239-6200 or visiting the Broadway Theatre's box office. For more information, visit www.colorpurple.com.
