Second Stage Theatre opened the New York premiere of Rajiv Joseph's Gruesome Playground Injuries featuring Pablo Schreiber and Jennifer Carpenter. Scott Ellis directs the production, which began previews on January 5, 2011. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the opening and brings you photo coverage below.
Gruesome Playground Injuries charts two lives, using scars, injuries and calamity as the mile markers. An imaginative tour de force the play explores why people hurt themselves to gain another's love, and the cumulative effect of such damage, of such demands. The show is recommended for adult audiences and contains strong language, profanity and violence.
Schreiber is best known for his portrayal of Polish-American character Nick Sobotka on HBO's Baltimore drugs crime drama The Wire. He appeared in the movies The Manchurian Candidate, Lords of Dogtown and Happythankyoumoreplease. He also had a guest role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in Awake and Sing! on Broadway, and for doing audio work for books on tape.
Carpenter is best known for her roles as Emily Rose in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, as Debra Morgan on Dexter, and as the lead role in the 2008 horror movie Quarantine.
