Donny Osmond, who plays Gaston in the show, celebrated his birthday on stage at Beauty in the Beast on Saturday, December 9th. During the curtain call at the evening performance, "All My Children" and former Beauty and the Beast star Jacob Young surprised Osmond with a birthday cake.
Steve Blanchard (Beast), Sarah Uriarte Berry (Belle), John Tartaglia (Lumiere), Jeanne Lehman (Mrs. Potts), Jonathan Freeman (Cogsworth), Jamie Ross (Maurice), Meredith Inglesby (Babette), Mary Stout (Madame de la Grande Bouche), Aldrin Gonzalez (Lefou) and the rest of the cast were on hand to wish Osmond a happy birthday.
Osmond's role as Gaston in is his first return to Broadway since making his debut in 1982 in Little Johnny Jones. In 1992, Osmond took on the starring role in the North American touring company of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice's hit musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Over the next six years, he appeared in more than 2,000 performances of the show. Also known for the "Donny and Marie" variety show, he will host the new CBS prime time version of "Name That Tune."
