The Third Annual Workshop was held last week in Beijing for the China Collaborative Innovation Center for Theatre Arts Management (CCICTAM). Theatre management leaders and experts from around the world gathered to exchange ideas and discuss future cooperation and collaboration. BroadwayWorld brings you photos from the event below!
CCICTAM was established in 2012 answering the call of the nation to strengthen China with advanced culture. Headquartered in the Central Academy of Drama, CCICTAM aims to provide information sharing platforms for issues central to the movement of worldwide art and cultural institutions from government subsidized models to more commercial and self sustaining organizations.
"As the reform on cultural management system goes further, theaters in China confront an unprecedented challenge and opportunity. The challenge is how to balance art and commerce", states Xu Xiang, The President of the Central Academy of Drama. The Third Annual Workshop for Performance Production at the CCICTAM brought together outstanding international guest speakers including: Jeremy Adams (Royal Shakespeare Company, UK), Bonnie Comley (Broadway Producer), Cho Yong Shin (CJ Azit Theatre, Korea), Stewart F. Lane (Broadway Producer), Sukeyoshi Mizuyachi (Seineza Theater Company, Japan), Cristina Orriols I Padros (Theatre Nacional de Catalunya, Spain), Igor Popov (Chekov Moscow Art Theatre, Russia), Wang Quanxing (National Ballet of China), Marko Rankov (Theatre Buffes du Nord, France), Stephen Rebbeck (National Theatre of Great Britain), Weng Shihui (National Theatre of Scotland) and Nick Yu (Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center).
The CCICTAM workshop was held in a 350 seat theater on the Beijing campus of the Central Academy of Drama (CAD) for an invite only audience which included representatives from the Central Academy of Drama, producers and managers from China's most prestigious arts organizations. CAD administration and leaders included: Ji Guoping (China Theatre Association), Xu Xiang (President, Central Academy of Drama), Ma Shuzhi (Central Academy of Drama), Li Qian (Central Academy of Drama), China Drama research Center, China Education Television, Drama Research Institute, China National Peking Opera, Shanghai National Academy of the Arts, National Theatre of China, China Oriental Performing Arts Group, Beijing People's Art Theatre, Beijing Poly Theatre Management Co., Sichuan People's Art Theatre, Liaoning People's Art Theatre, Jiangsu Performing Arts Group, Zhejiang Drama Ensemble among others.
The Central Academy of Drama is a top international theatre and film education institution training students for placement in arts organizations across the globe. CAD offers both undergraduate, masters degrees and doctorate programs and is affiliated with the Education Ministry of China. Student Hosts and interpreters from CAD included: Shui Rui, Zhou Chunmiao, Zhang Yuqi, Zhang Shali, Wang Yanghaoran, Yuan Yue, Wang Qianyi, Cui Yinzhu, Zhang Xinyi, and Zhao Dudu.
