According to Variety, Philip Seymour Hoffman may be returning to Broadway sometime next year.

The Oscar-winning actor, who is currently busy with numerous film and theatre commitments, will become involved with the project after his schedule clears up. He and Elizabeth Marvel (Seascape, An American Daughter) will star in 50 Words, a new play by Michael Weller (Zhivago, Moonchildren, Loose Ends).  The play will likely see Broadway during the 2007-2008 season, after playing an out-of-town engagement first.  Emaunel Azenberg will produce.

The two actors previously starred in a New York reading of the play, which "follows a single tumultuous night in a contemporary marriage." The play is part of a trilogy by Weller that includes What the Night is For, which starred Gillian Anderson in its 2002 London run.

Hoffman, who is the co-artistic director of the Labyrinth Theatre Company, is a Tony-nominee for his performance in Long Day's Journey Into Night and has also appeared on Broadway in True West.  An Oscar-winner for Capote, he also directed the Stephen Adly Guirgis plays
Jesus Hopped the A Train, Our Lady of 121st Street, and The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.  Other film credits include Cold Mountain, Almost Famous, The 25th Hour, The Big Lebowski, and Magnolia.

His upcoming projects include the film Charlie Wilson's War and the LAByrinth play Jack Goes Boating, in which he'll star.
