Gary Mauer, who currently stars in the title role of the US Phantom of the Opera tour, has offered to spend some time online with his fans in a Q&A and free chat session on Saturday, August 27th.

The chat will roughly last from 5 to 6 PM (depending on Mauer's dressing room/dinner duties), and will be divided into two parts.  From 5 to 5:45 PM, Mauer will take part in a moderated Q & A.  During that time, only moderators and Mauer will be able to talk in the chat room. Everyone else can ask questions through the form on the right, and read his answers in chat. At all other times, anyone will be able to talk in the room.  Then from 5:45 to 6 PM, the star will participate in a free chat, "just to talk about anything" in normal everday conversation.

In addition to playing Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera, Mauer has also appeared as Enjolras in Les Miserables on Broadway, as well as in the show's touring company.  He has also been seen in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber on the road and at Radio City Music Hall, and as Ravenal in the national tour of Show Boat.  Other credits include Jesus Christ Superstar and The Pirates of Penzance.

When chat is in progress, you will be able to submit your questions to Mauer - but for now, this has been disabled.  Fans can use the chat as a normal chat room when scheduled chats are not in progress.

The chat room has been created on IRC channel #TheMauersOnline (connect through the irc.centralchat.net chat server). The room can be accessed through mIRC or (for people who don't want the hassle of downloading another chat program) online (which auto-connects you to the room when you put in a username and press "OK") through a java applet at: http://www.themauersonline.com/chat/
