Peter Max returns to a legion of fans when he visits Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor, NJ over Labor Day weekend, bringing with him a collection of new original paintings, created especially for the show, along with the iconic imagery that has made him a world-renowned legend. "Peter Max: The Master of 'Pop' Summer 2013 Collection" opens on Thursday, August 29, 2013 and runs through Sunday, September 8, 2013, with Peter Max appearing at special gallery receptions and signing purchased artwork from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.

"It is an honor to welcome back our friend, the revered and immensely talented Peter Max," said Kim Miller, owner of Ocean Galleries. "We have hosted Peter's exhibitions for over 10 years, yet each time he visits we continue to be amazed with his newest works and the number of collectors that enthusiastically admire his art. We especially enjoy seeing the new artwork he creates for our show as he fell in love with our seashore community years ago and always paints gorgeous pieces reflective of the New Jersey shore."

Max remains an iconic, multi-dimensional artist whose signature vibrant colors have become part of the fabric of contemporary culture. With his long-standing career as the preeminent Pop artist in America, Max has been successively called a Pop Icon, Neo Fauvist, Abstract Expressionist, and the United States' "Painter Laureate". Millions of loyal fans celebrate Max's art, which has appeared in one-man museum exhibitions around the world and collections of numerous celebrities and political dignitaries.

Peter Max has a seemingly endless supply of energy and enthusiasm for new projects. The artist just completed portraits of Taylor Swift for her Web site and tour. Swift confesses to being a huge fan of Peter stemming from her childhood trips to Stone Harbor, where Peter would appear each summer at Ocean Galleries. It is the second series he has created for her; the first one sold out.

Peter Max also recently painted the hull of the "Breakaway" Norwegian Cruise Lines newest ship, which made headlines throughout the world with the bold and eye-catching signature design that is often prominent in his art. Max also served as the official artist for The Israeli Day Parade in New York City this past June. Upcoming projects include a book for Harper Collins.

The artist has the distinct honor of painting the last seven Presidents of the United States and the world's best-loved celebrities. As has been his tradition throughout his long career, Peter Max seeks to capture themes of America at its finest in his art. In addition to the new artwork on the Norwegian Cruise Line ship, his signature art has appeared on other large and iconic canvases from a Boeing 777 jumbo jet to a 600-foot stage for the Woodstock Music Festival. Max has also been designated Official Artist of five Super Bowls, six Grammy Awards, World Cup USA, The World Series, the United Nations Earth Summit, and numerous other events.

Max's concerns for peace, the environment, human rights and animal rights, are as strong today as they have been throughout the years.

Max's remarkable legacy is the subject of a spectacular book, The Art of Peter Max (Abrams, October 2002), the first book to take an in-depth look at his influence on culture in America and around the world.

"Peter Max: The Master of 'Pop' Summer 2013 Collection" will open at Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor) on Thursday, August 29 and run through Sunday, September 8, 2013. The exhibition will include a variety of original paintings, drawings, and limited-edition prints, all of which are available for acquisition. The Stone Harbor gallery will host special guest receptions with Peter Max signing purchased artwork from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1, 2013.

The Stone Harbor gallery is open from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM daily during the summer season. For more or directions, call 609-368-7777 or visit oceangalleries.com
