Peter Glebo Gallery is pleased to present Longnecks, an exhibition of large-scale, acrylic-on-canvas portraits of giraffes by Broadway legend Tommy Tune. Opening on Thursday, June 3 and running through Sunday, August 29, the exhibition will serve as the new Chelsea gallery's inaugural exhibition. This exhibition is made possible, in part, by the generous support of Playbill.

Tune's collection of giraffe portraits perfectly exhibits both the artist's trademark gracefulness and his unique sense of whimsy. "I paint long and tall," said the famously lanky Tune about his choice of subject matter. "I champion large paintings in small spaces," he continued. "They extend the horizons of a room. To suggest the vast, to open a window to the world, to offer an expanded feeling in a contracted environment is what only art can achieve. Light, color and composition should fill the entire proscenium. It's why murals were created."

Lithographs of a handpicked selection of Tune's other artwork will also be available for sale.

Peter Glebo Gallery was founded on the notion that artistic talent is not specific to any one area of expression; an artist who is brilliant in one medium can use that same talent in another. To encourage this "transference of talent," longtime Art Director Peter Glebo has designated his gallery space for well-known performers to exhibit their visual art.

Peter Glebo Gallery is located at 526 West 26th, Suite 318. Gallery hours are Thursday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:3o PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM.

Tommy Tune has been painting his entire life. Best known for his multi-decade, record-breaking career in the theater, he is celebrating 50 years in show business with his acclaimed new show, Steps in Time which he is performing throughout the country. One of the theater's most legendary and visionary citizens, Tommy Tune has received an unprecedented nine Tony Awards in four different categories, as well as eight Drama Desk Awards, two Obie Awards, two Astaire Awards, the American Dance Award, the Drama League Award, the George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement, and The National Medal of Arts, the nations' highest honor for Artistic Achievement. He began his career as a performer in 1965 in Baker Street, soon broke out of the chorus and a few years later garnered his first Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in Michael Bennett's Seesaw. His star turn in My One and Only garnered him the 1983 Tony for Best Actor in a Musical. Tune's awards-filled career on the other side of the footlights, as a director and choreographer both on and off Broadway, has made him responsible for some of the most original musicals in history: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas; A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine; Nine; Grand Hotel, The Musical; My One and Only and The Will Rogers Follies.
