Performances begin tonight for The Playwrights Realm (Katherine Kovner, Artistic Director;Roberta Pereira, Producing Director) world premiere of Mfoniso Udofia's Sojourners, directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar. The production runs through February 13, 2016 with a January 28, 2016 opening at The Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 W. 42nd Street, NYC).
Tickets are on sale through TicketCentral.com, by calling (212) 279-4200, noon to 8pm daily, or by visiting the Ticket Central box office at 416 W. 42nd Street. Tickets range in price from $25 to $35 for all regular performances (January 29 through February 13). The Playwrights Realm is pleased to bring back their successful $1to5 Ticket Drive initiative during the first five preview performances, wherein tickets range in price from $1 to $5 for performancesJanuary 21 to January 26. Tickets for January 27 are $15. Student tickets are available for $10 for all performances from January 27 to February 13 at the box office and online.
The cast includes Hubert Point-Du Jour as Ukpong, Lakisha Michelle May as Moxie,Chinasa Ogbuagu as Abasiama and Chinaza Uche as Disciple.
Abasiama came to America with high hopes-for her arranged marriage and for her future-intent on earning a degree and returning to Nigeria. But when her husband is seduced by America, she must choose between the Nigerian and the American dream.
The design team includes Jason Sherwood (Scenic Design), Jiyoun Chang (Lighting Design), Loren Shaw (Costume Design), Jeremy S. Bloom (Sound Design), Stefano Brancato (Puppet Design/Direction), and Samantha Shoffner (Props Design). Kara Kaufman is the Production Stage Manager and Ed Herman is the Assistant Stage Manager.

Sojourners is part of The Playwrights Realm's Page One Program, which nurtures and supports early-career playwrights. Following the run of her play, Page One Playwright Mfoniso Udofia will get a one year residency with the company. She will receive services including health insurance for one year, funding for travel/professional development, readings for scripts in development, theatre tickets, a desk in the Realm's midtown offices and much more.
Sojourners is made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. The production is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with The City Council.
