Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) will be featured this week on American Public Media's (APM) popular program Performance Today, currently the most listened to classical music radio show in America.
Performance Today will air two recordings of OSL performing works from its February Carnegie Hall Orchestra Series concert, led by Principal Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado. The first broadcast includes Schumann's Symphony No. 4 in D minor and the second features Debussy's Five Préludes in a U.S. premiere orchestration by Hans Zender. The pieces will be interspersed with interviews, hosted by Fred Child, with Principal Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, OSL clarinetistJon Manasse, and OSL flutist Elizabeth Mann. The performances and interviews were recorded February 6 at Orchestra of St. Luke's home, The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, in Mary Flagler Cary Hall.
The Carnegie Hall performance of this program marked Heras-Casado's debut on Carnegie Hall's main stage. The New York Times called OSL's performance "luminous and urgent" and dubbed Heras-Casado "the thinking person's idea of a hotshot young conductor."
Performance Today will air these broadcasts on public radio stations throughout the country; local airtimes can be found athttp://performancetoday.publicradio.org/stations/list.php. OSL's audience in New York City can hear the broadcasts in their entirety on WQXR-FM on Saturday, May 25 at 7:00 AM. The program will also be posted on performancetoday.org andOSLmusic.org.
