As previously announced on BroadwayWorld.com with an audition notice, HANDS ON A HARDBODY, the musical based on the 1997 documentary of the same name, will have a three week reading in Manhattan.
HANDS ON A HARDBODY, with a book by Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife) and lyrics by Amanda Green (High Fidelity) outlines a contest in which hardscrabble contestants are invited to a local car dealership to place their hands on a new Nissan truck. The contestant who can stand the longest without removing his or her hand from the vehicle gets to drive it off the lot. What initially seems like a frivolous, even kitschy stunt becomes a true test of wills.
The auditions will take place February 11, and the workshop will be held from March 21 to April 9. It will be directed by Neil Pepe.
Pepe is an acclaimed theater director and has been the Artistic Director of the award-winning Atlantic Theater Company since 1992. Under Pepe's direction the Atlantic, founded by David Mamet and William H. Macy, has established itself as one of the premiere Off Broadway theater companies in New York garnering four Tony awards, and six Obie awards.
