Debuting in NYC tonight, July 18th, at 7pm at The People's Improv Theatre is a fresh new take on the jukebox musical.
Pop! An anti-jukebox musical is one woman's journey into finding her father and gleaning advice from the Billboard top 40. Complete with derisive do-wop, uninspirational ballads, and self-aggrandizing 80's rock, this jukebox musical parody has a darkly comical throughline that can only be expressed in rhyme.Form the writer/performer: "I believe it is important to create something innovative if you have the opportunity to perform solo work. It should hold a mirror up to society, but it's really fun to hold a mirror up to the entertainment industry because nothing goes unnoticed. I don't think audiences are dumb and they know they are being force-fed the same egotistical nonsense so it is the job of the indie artist to respond to that, by mocking it or creating something imperfect and honest, or hopefully both at once as this show attempts to do. That is our power."For more information, visit www.thepit-nyc.com/show/pop-an-anti-jukebox-musical.
