The Last Days of Mickey and Jean, the newest work by playwright Richard Dresser, will be presented June 29th through July 22nd at Penguin Rep Theatre in Stony Point, New York.
Staged by artistic director Joe Brancato, The Last Days of Mickey and Jean stars Thomas G. Waites, Sarah McCafrey and Robert Ross.
According to Mr. Brancato, The Last Days of Mickey and Jean is “a triangle of ‘love on the lam’.” Mickey (played by Mr. Waites), a fugitive mobster from Boston, is forced into “retirement” with his long-time girlfriend Jean (played by Ms. McCafrey) in Paris. Pursued by a mysterious stranger (played by Mr. Ross), the couple discovers shocking truths about each other along the way. “With its funny perspective on love and loyalty,” says Mr. Brancato, “this is a retirement story you've never seen before.”
Playwright Richard Dresser’s works have been produced in New York, Europe and around the country. His seventeen published plays include Rounding Third, the comedy about two mismatched Little League coaches, which closed Penguin Rep’s 2011 season last year. His credits also include Below the Belt and Gun-Shy, both of which started at the Humana Festival at Actors Theater of Louisville before moving Off Broadway. He wrote the book for The Beach Boys musical Good Vibrations and the musical Johnny Baseball, which premiered at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge. Mr. Dresser is a resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
