The celebratory 15th season of Pen Parentis Literary Salons closes with a spectacular lineup of emerging authors at the glamorous Andaz Wall Street in Lower Manhattan.
Tuesday, May 9th at 7pm, Pen Parentis Literary Salons will bring together four magnificent writers - John Freeman Gill, Stewart Lewis, Kristopher Jansma, and Alice Kaltman - who will present readings of their new works followed by a panel discussion moderated by Columbia University MFA alumnae Christina Chiu and M. M. De Voe in the prestigious downtown hotel.
The reading series has recently won a Creative Engagement Grant from New York City and New York State, administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Admission is free but RSVP is recommended via their website at penparentis.org/calendar.
Kristopher Jansma is an award-winning poet who has read at Pen Parentis in the past, as has musician/writer Stewart Lewis, who returns to the Pen Parentis stage fresh from a performance of his rock band at Rockwood Music Hall. Lewis currently lives in Washington, DC. Alice Kaltman writes prolifically about surfers and mermaids, while New York Times' writer, John Freeman Gill's debut novel, THE GARGOYLE HUNTERS was recently lauded as "tender, funny, and achingly sad," a love letter to the architecture of New York City.
Pen Parentis has a new Book Club open to all adults. The selection for this month is THE GARGOYLE HUNTERS. Join via the Pen Parentis Book Club Facebook Group or just read the book and show up at 6:30 for a book discussion with neighbors and a special VIP appearance by the book's author.
In addition to being exceptionally diverse and talented, all of Pen Parentis' featured authors are also parents - expect intimate discussion of real-world truths, and how they affect us and future generations. These free, neighborhood Salons were founded to to break the stereotype of parent-writer by presenting the incredible variety of creative writing by authors who happen to also be parents. Since their first salon in January of 2009, Pen Parentis has presented more than 300 writers to the general public.
The night begins with networking over wine, compliments of Andaz Wall Street. Readings will be followed by intimate Q&A, and the event ends with mingling and book signings. All readers are welcome, 21+. Books will be vended for signings. Pen Parentis Literary Salons are a great place to meet book-loving neighbors as well as industry notables.
