Pen Parentis Literary Salon To Host INDIVIDUALISM

Follow the Instagram crowd or go it alone? Is trailblazing a brilliant move or does it just slow you down? At the April 9th Pen Parentis Literary Salon in Downtown Manhattan, co-hosts M. M. De Voe and Christina Chiu will pose questions of INDIVIDUALISM to three eminent authors who have thriving literary careers-and children at home.

Celebrating ten years of Downtown literary salons that feature the incredibly diverse creative work of eminent writers who are also parents, Pen Parentis is a 501c3 literary nonprofit that helps writers stay on creative track after they start a family. All events are on the second Tuesday of the month and begin at 7pm at the Killarney Rose Hideout, find the secret upstairs entrance on the 2nd floor of 80 Beaver Street.

Featured authors on April 9th:

• Hilary Reyl has written two novels, Lessons in French (an editor's pick on Oprah.com), and Kids Like Us (starred review in Publisher's Weekly) She has a PhD in French literature and three kids.

• Tim Fitts lives in Philadelphia with his daughters. He has authored two collections of short stories, and his novel, The Soju Club, was translated into Korean and published in South Korea. He has published over thirty short stories in journals such as The Gettysburg Review, Granta, Cutbank, Shenandoah, fugue, and others.

• Wendy Chin-Tanner is the author of the poetry collections Turn, which was a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards and Anyone Will Tell You, and co-author of the graphic novel American Terrorist. She is a founding editor at Kin Poetry Journal, poetry editor at The Nervous Breakdown, and co-founder at A Wave Blue World. A trained sociologist, born and raised in NYC and educated at Cambridge University, UK, she is mother to two daughters.

All authors presented at Pen Parentis are also parents - the series aims to shatter the stereotype of what parents write by presenting the creative diversity of high quality work by professional writers who have kids. Columbia MFA graduates, M. M. De Voe and Christina Chiu will moderate. Killarney Rose offers a full bar menu and happy hour pricing on drinks. There is no admission charge, though a voluntary $10 donation to Pen Parentis is warmly appreciated.
