30 years ago, Shepard Sobel brought together an intrepid band of actors to set up shop in a Chelsea storefront with nothing but questionable carpentry skills and a love of great theater.

In that first season, a vibrant cast of actors, including David Hyde Pierce, helped to define The Pearl's Resident Acting Company through a fantastic mix of classics and a world premiere. From the beginning, The Pearl was a place to explore, challenge, and celebrate voices and talents from every age.

They came together certain that a company of actors, working and training together, could create something unique even in the hustle and bustle of the New York theatre world. Their dedication-and the dedication of those who follow in their footsteps- carried the company through growth spurts and setbacks, from living room parties to gala evenings, and from that small Chelsea space to the Company's current home on 42nd Street.

Following The Pearl Theatre's commitment to present classic theater in New York City, David Hyde Pierce will be honored for years of artistic contribution to the New York stage and screen and Shepard Sobel will be honored for a lifetime of artistic achievement in a vibrant celebration of the creative spirit of New York and a toast to those who have shaped the city's cultural landscape.

The Pearl Theater's 30th Anniversary Celebration will take place on Thursday, June 5 on at a private club on Manhattan's Upper East Side and will begin at 7:00 P.M. with cocktails. Dinner, the raffle and performances by The Pearl's Resident Acting Company, sporting some of the theater's most famous costumes, will commence at 8:00 P.M.
