Michele Pawk, Fritz Weaver, Malachy McCourt and Simon Jones, among others, will enter George Bernard Shaw's Heartbreak House, the third reading presented as part of the Shaw Project. It will be presented on March 20th at the Players Club in Gramercy Park.

Directed by David Staller, Heartbreak House will feature Pawk (Tony Award-winner for Hollywood Arms, Seussical, Bounce) as Hesione Hushabye, Weaver (Tony Award-winner for Child's Play) as Captain Shotover, McCourt (Translations) as The Burgler, and Jones (Waiting in the Wings, Ring Round the Moon) as Mazzini Dunn as well as Jack Gilpin (The Elephant Man) as Hector Hushabye, Lynn Cohen (Ivanov) as Nurse Guinness, Laura O'Deh as Ellie Dunn, and in a rare acting appearance, Irish Rep artistic director Charlotte Moore as Lady Utterwood. Theatre critic John Simon, who has professed himself a big fan of the play, will introduce Heartbreak House.

The Shaw Project
--which aims to encompass all plays (long and short) by the legendary Irish playwright--is captained by Staller (Mrs. Warren's Profession at the Irish Rep), who will produce and direct the following currently-scheduled plays: You Never Can Tell on April 17th, the one-acts Overruled and Augustus Does His Bit on May 8th, Getting Married on June 19th, John Bull's Other Island on July 17th, The Apple Cart on September 18th, Misalliance on October 23rd, Captain Brassbound's Conversion on November 20th and The Philanderer on December 18th (with more to be announced). All the readings will be held at 7 PM on Monday, with the exception of the two one-acts (which will be presented at noon). Arms and the Man and Fanny's First Play--both with starry casts--were previously seen.

"The Irish born Shaw, who died at age 94 in 1950, is one of the most prolific writers of plays, books and treatises in the English language. His unyielding stand for human rights, particularly for women's rights, has become legendary. He encouraged general political awareness and the need for people to take responsibility for their own lives," according to press notes.
