Stage legend Patti LuPone will have a guest starring role on the upcoming third season of HBO's GIRLS. The news was confirmed to BWW by LuPone's press rep this afternoon.
No details have been revealed as to the role she will play or when the episode(s) will air. The 'Evita' star will join Broadway vets Andrew Rannells and Patrick Wilson who also have been previously featured on the award-winning
HBO comedy. LuPone will next be seen as a guest star on the
FX drama series 'American Horror Story: Coven' premiering Wednesday, October 9 at 10:00 PM ET/PT.
Created by and starring Lena Dunham ("Tiny Furniture"), the Emmy(R)-winning
HBO series GIRLS takes a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of women in their early 20s. Dunham, Judd Apatow, Jenni Konner, Ilene S. Landress and Bruce Eric Kaplan executive produce the show.
In addition to Dunham, who stars as Hannah, the cast of GIRLS includes Allison Williams ("American Dreams") as Marnie; Jemima Kirke ("Tiny Furniture") as Jessa; ZOSIA MAMET ("Mad Men") as Shoshanna; Alex Karpovsky ("Tiny Furniture") as Ray; and Adam Driver ("Lincoln") as Adam.
Winner of the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Actress in a Musical and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Performance of the Season for her performance as Rose in the most recent Broadway production of Gypsy, Lupone's other recent stage credits include her debut with the New York City Ballet as guest soloist in their new production of The Seven Deadly Sins, Joanne in the New York Philharmonic's production of Company, her debut with the Los Angeles Opera in Weill-Brecht's Mahagonny,the world premiere of Jake Heggie's opera To Hell and Back with San Francisco's Baroque Philharmonia Orchestra, Mrs. Lovett in John Doyle's production of Sweeney Todd (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle nominations; Drama League Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre), the title role in Marc Blitzstein's Regina, a musical version of Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes at the Kennedy Center, Fosca in a concert version of Passion, which was also broadcast on
PBS Live From Lincoln Center, a multi-city tour of her theatrical concert Matters of the Heart, the City Center Encores! production of Can-Can, the NY Philharmonic's productions of Candide and Sweeney Todd (NY Phil debut) and performances on Broadway in Michael Frayn's Noises Off, David Mamet's The Old Neighborhood, Terrence McNally's Master Class, in her own concert Patti LuPone On Broadway and three solo concerts at Carnegie Hall. In addition to Matters of the Heart she also performs three other concerts Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda, The Lady With The Torch and The Gypsy In My Soul.
