Director Patrice Chéreau and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen take part in a free discussion, moderated by Met General Manager Peter Gelb, about the company's new production of Janá?ek's From the House of the Dead. First presented in Vienna, Amsterdam, and Aix-en-Provence, the production was praised by critics as "the operatic event of the year." The Guardian said Chéreau's production was "a momentous achievement," and the Financial Times described it as "100 minutes of sheer perfection."

The From the House of the Dead panel discussion will be on Monday, November 2, at 6pm at the opera house. As a special offering by the Metropolitan Opera and the Metropolitan Opera Guild, this lecture is free and open to the public. Tickets are required and will be available beginning at 3pm that day in the Met lobby.

The next new production discussion will be on Les Contes d'Hoffmann on November 18, followed by Attila on February 10, The Nose on February 22, and Armida on April 5. Tickets for those four events, which take place at the Met at 6pm, are available to the general public for $20, with reduced rates for Guild members and Met subscribers, and free for Met patrons. Information is available at the Guild's website at metoperafamily.org/guild.
