On June 24th, Parks and Recreation will screen Blueprint: New York City Parks, a new and fascinating exploration of five iconic parks that shaped the city and inspire park systems around the country and around the world. The screening will be at 8 p.m. at the Herbert Von King Recreation Center at 670 Lafayette Ave. in Brooklyn.

The one-hour special aired on NYC Life on May 17th on NYC life, the flagship station of NYC Media, the official network of the City of New York. The film focuses on Central Park in Manhattan, Prospect Park in Brooklyn, Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx (the largest park in New York), Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens and the Staten Island Greenbelt (one of the truly hidden treasures of the Big Apple). Using lush visuals from the present day, vintage photos, archival footage, and expert interviews, their history comes to life in an exploration of how the design of urban parks transformed the City's landscape. New York City parks are a national and global model for cutting-edge design and civic pride, from creative re-use of landfills to wildlife preservation, sports and health.

Also featured during the screening will be "It's My Park," a NYC life series which offers overviews, activities, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of many of NYC's most beautiful green spaces throughout the five boroughs.
