London's acclaimed Donmar Warehouse has announced a 2007-2008 season that includes a production of Jason Robert Brown and Alfred Uhry's Parade, as well as the premiere of a new one-act by Michael Frayn, according to Variety.
Kiss of the Spider Woman will kick off the season on April 19th. Adapted by Manuel Puig from his acclaimed novel (and not to be confused with the Kander and Ebb musical that the book inspired), the production will feature a translation by Allan Baker and direction by Charlotte Westenra. Rupert Evans will star as Marxist prisoner Valentin.
The Crimson Hotel, by Frayn (Noises Off, Democracy) will be presented as part of Absurdia, an evening of one-acts also featuring A Resounding Tinkle and Gladly Otherwise, both by absurdist playwright N.F. Simpson. Douglas Hodge, the associate director of the Donmar Warehouse, will stage the trilogy, which will run from July 26th through September 8th.
Rob Ashford, the Tony Award-winning choreographer of Thoroughly Modern Millie and the West End Evita revival, will helm the new production of Parade, with a score by Brown (13, The Last Five Years) and a book by Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy). Ashford was previously the assistant choreographer and dance captain of Parade, which featured a cast of 34 when it premiered at Lincoln Center in 1998. The new staging will feature a cast of 15. The musical is based on the true story of the Jewish Leo Frank, who was falsely accused of raping and killing a young girl in a racist 1913 Georgia.
A revival of Harold Pinter's time-twisting romantic drama Betrayal will run from May 13th through July 21st. Roger Mitchell will direct.
Another play, to be directed by Donmar Artistic Director Michael Grandage, will be added to the 2007-2008 line-up (to be performed around Christmas time).
More casting will be announced.
