WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Feb. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Sunny southeastern Florida, the global epicenter for cool modern design, is home to the premier source for investment-grade art and furniture: Palm Beach Modern Auctions (PBMA). The company has garnered headlines worldwide for its lively themed events, including the auction of the Steve Rubell/Studio 54 Archive, the sale of early fashion sketches by designer Karl Lagerfeld, and last year's hugely publicized auction of Jacqueline Onassis photos and personal correspondence with her favorite designers. PBMA's eagerly awaited next auction takes place on Saturday, Feb. 20 and features an elite offering of modern design, art, furniture and accessories.

"For this sale we decided to take a boutique approach," said PBMA auctioneer and co-owner Rico Baca. "We've put together curated groupings of interesting, high-quality works by artists and designers whom we know to be in demand with collectors right now."

The immortal designs of master furniture designer and craftsman George Nakashima are represented in an array of forms. They include both freeform and straight-edge 4-drawer walnut chests, an 85-inch-long walnut coffee table, and a pair of wall-mounted two-drawer cabinets. All Nakashima lots have impeccable provenance, and details may be viewed in PBMA's online catalog.

Continental furniture highlights include a Gabriella Crespi (Italy) "Elisse" coffee table of brass and lacquered wood with four retractable leaves and a unique, privately commissioned Louis Durot (France) dining table.

A very special boutique selection of furniture by Mexican artist and designer Pedro Friedeberg includes examples of his iconic mahogany Hand Chair, whimsical full-size Butterfly and Foot Chair, and Hand and Foot Coffee Table.

Leading the modern and contemporary art section is a large, original oil painting by Jim Dine titled "Room Painting." It is artist-signed and dated 1958. Also noteworthy are an Adolph Gottlieb oil-on-canvas and three artist-signed original 1981 works-on-paper by John Chamberlain.

There are many other high-quality art entries, both original works and from editions, by today's most collected artists, including Tom Wesselmann, Larry Rivers, Jesus Raphael Soto, Sol Lewitt, Karel Appel, Robert Indiana, Andy Warhol and dozens more.

Many of the greatest names in midcentury Murano glass production are represented by rare and iconic pieces seldom available for purchase. Those designers include Ercole Barovier, Tobia Scarpa, Anzolo Fuga, and Giulio Radi.

Twelve pieces of exquisite French Lalique glass from a private collection will be offered, with forms including rare swans and pairs of skulking panthers in frosted and black glass.

Palm Beach Modern Auctions' Feb. 20, 2016 auction will begin at 12 noon Eastern Time at the company's exhibition center, 417 Bunker Rd., West Palm Beach, FL 33405. Preview: Mon.-Fri. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 9 a.m. onward on both auction days.
