Capping three years and 4,000 hours of work on his latest masterpiece, painter James Van Fossan (www.jamesvanfossan.com) is at last unveiling "Drama Magnifico" as a multi-media audiovisual experience.
The Vail, Colorado-based artist's five-and-a-half minute YouTube video unveils the multi-figure painting image by dramatic image, accompanied by a beautiful instrumental and choral musical piece he wrote, performed and recorded. Driven by his powerfully melodic acoustic and electric guitars, the track "The Valley of Truth" was released on iTunes January 26.
Van Fossan will be showcasing "Drama Magnifico" during a weeklong special exhibition in New York City May 14-20. The venue is the Great Jones Space, 9 Great Jones Street #2, NYC 10012. The painting will be available through a silent bidding forum. Bids starting at $350,000 will be considered.
Some of the phrases he uses to describe the oil on linen 8.5 ft. x 6.5 ft. work are "The Symphony of Harmony, a Musical of Love," "The Fight Machines Rhapsody painting a portrait of Fortitude," and "The Opera of Lies will fall to the Valley of Truth."
"Presenting the painting in this unique manner has been my intent from the beginning, in an attempt to help art lovers on social media experience the story more clearly," Van Fossan says. "Because I am a songwriter and musician, as well as a painter, it feels only natural for me to join these mediums together."
Since leaving the corporate world to focus on his art full time 10 years ago, the self taught Van Fossan has come to command some of the highest recognitions in realism. His 2012 painting, Magnum Opus claimed the coveted Chairman's Choice Award in the 2012/2013 International Art Renewal Center Salon, as well as the Best of Show prize for the The Collection Beaux-Arts Réaliste International Competition (Montreal, Canada) in 2014. His work has been featured in American Art Collector, International Artist Magazine, Southwest Art, LUXE Magazine and other art/lifestyle publications.
