Pace Presents Two Evenings With The Taylor 2 Dance Co 1/6-7

On January 6 and 7, Pace University's inaugural Pace Presents season at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts in Lower Manhattan continues into 2012 with two evenings of performances by Taylor 2, the Paul Taylor Dance Company's acclaimed ensemble. Over the course of the two evenings the company will present six of its most beloved pieces: Airs, Runes, Piazzolla Caldera, Images, Funny Papers and Esplanade. Full details follow below.

Established by Paul Taylor in 1993 and conceived as a company of six professionals with a particular gift for his style who would perform his work throughout the world, Taylor 2 has traveled far and wide and developed a repertoire that spans the broad spectrum of Taylor's work. On January 6 at the Schimmel Theatre the company will perform Airs, Runes and Piazzolla Caldera. Airs features the music of G. F. Handel and costumes by Gene Moore, and dates from 1978. Runes was created in 1975 and features the music of Gerald Busby, costumes by Dr. George Tacet and lighting by Jennifer Tipton. Piazzolla Caldera is a more recent creation, dating from 1997 and featuring the music of Astor Piazzolla and Jerzy Peterburshsky and sets and costumes by Santo Loquasto. Lighting for all three is by Jennifer Tipton.

The January 7 program begins with 1977's Images performed to music by Claude Debussy and featuring costumes by Gene Moore and lighting by Mark Litvin. Funny Papers was created in 1994 and boasts choreography by Sandra Stone, Mary Cochran, Hernando Cortez, David Grenke, Andrew Asnes and Patrick Corbin, amended and combined by Paul Taylor. The piece features a soundtrack of novelty tunes, costumes by Santo Loquasto and lighting by Jennifer Tipton. And finally, Esplanade is performed to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and features costumes by John Rawlings and lighting by Jennifer Tipton. It was created in 1975.

About the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts
Pace University's Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts, located within the University's downtown campus, has been an integral part of the Lower Manhattan community for almost 35 years. Located one block east of City Hall and at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, its 672-seat theatre is just a few blocks from the cobblestoned "Theatre Alley" that ran along the stage doors of some of the earliest theatres in Manhattan.
