PS Classics will release Sitting In Limbo, the fourth solo recording from Broadway and cabaret star Jessica Molaskey, on May 8, 2007.
"Coupling her unique blend of contemporary flair and musical elegance, the CD evolved from Molaskey's sold-out engagement at New York's Algonquin Hotel in June 2006. It finds the singer-actress in the outstanding musical company of Grammy-nominated keyboardists Larry Goldings and Larry Fuller, sax player Harry Allen, and her celebrated husband, jazz guitarist and vocalist John Pizzarelli. Pizzarelli produced the CD and is featured on two vocal duets," according to press materials.
Pizzarelli and Molaskey – who co-host the nationally syndicated program Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli, which is also available globally as a podcast at www.johnpizzarelli.com – will perform selections from the new CD at their exclusive four-week engagement at New York's Café Carlyle from May 1 to 26. They will also have a free in-store performance and CD signing at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 23 at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Center.
"Since her debut recording 'Pentimento,' and continuing with 'A Good Day,' 'Make Believe' and now 'Sitting in Limbo,' Molaskey's musical wanderlust has encouraged her to explore various styles drawing from jazz, Broadway, standards and contemporary material. Here her abundant virtuosity and eclectic musical vocabulary pairs the standards of Vincent Youmans and Harry Warren alongside more contemporary fare from Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell, Sting and Paul Simon, as well as two originals composed with her husband."
Winner of the 2007 Nightlife Award for Outstanding Female Vocalist, Molaskey is a veteran of a dozen Broadway shows, most recently A Man of No Importance at Lincoln Center. Other Broadway credits include Parade, Dream, Tommy, Crazy for You, Les Miserables and City of Angels. She has also appeared on the PS Classics' recordings of "Windflowers: The Songs of Jerome Moross," Fine & Dandy and John Bucchino's It's Only Life. She has sung in concert at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Montreal Jazz Festival and more.
