P.J.S. Exhibitions, an eclectic gallery on the cusp of New York's Chelsea, West Village and Meatpacking District (238 W. 14th between 7th & 8th Ave.), presents Homesick, a collection of "pseudo op pop" from artist Michael Porten, opening January 7, 2011.

Homesick is the exploration of seemingly different experiences including religion, addiction, family, music, and rainbows. Michael Porten's work directly addresses how these various subjects overlap and work together, through what he describes as an "amalgamated self-portrait" using oil-on-canvas paintings and sculptures. Curated by PatRick Sullivan, Homesick runs January 7 through February 27, 2011.

"I became so inspired by Michael Porten's work that I knew immediately I had to offer him the opportunity to express himself directly in my Gallery," says PatRick Sullivan, founder and director of P.J.S. Exhibitions. "I am both thrilled and honored to have such a uniquely talented, well-respected artist present his first New York solo exhibition here at P.J.S."

Michael Porten graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a MFA in Painting in 2010. Michael Porten's work has been featured on the cover of New America Paintings, and received "Best of Show" at the SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival in 2004. He won a SCAD graduate Fellowship in 2006, and is an Honorary Member of the American Society of Portrait Artists. Michael Porten has participated in many exhibitions around the US, as well as in France and China. Homesick will be his first solo exhibition in New York.

All are invited to come and explore Michael Porten's mind in Homesick.

THE GALLERY IS OPEN TUESDAY-SUNDAY 11:00am - 7:00pm 212.242.2427

Michael Porten, born in Indianapolis, IN and raised in Madison, AL, was inspired by philosopher and author Albert Camus' thoughts on the dichotomy of human desire for understanding, purpose, and knowledge. Michael's Porten's work investigates the overlapping and synchronizing parts of experiences such as religion, family, language, and rainbows, through the use of oil-on-canvas paintings and sculptures.

P.J.S. Exhibitions opened its doors in May 2010. Sullivan's gallery serves as a premier location for displaying the new works of exciting, modern, young and avant-garde artists. As such, Sullivan transforms the gallery's environment to reflect each artist's individual work, lending to constant innovation at P.J.S.
