Sometimes you'll go to a museum and see detail sketches drawn by an artist for what will eventually be part of a great work of art. It doesn't quite work that way in theatre, and while fans of musicals treasure recordings of songs that were either cut or rewritten before opening on Broadway, early drafts tend to stay tucked away in a writer's notebook.
But today Lin-Manuel Miranda offered his Twitter followers a glimpse of a pair of his early drafts of HAMILTON lyrics, handwritten in his notebook. They're followed by an unused lyric from his previous musical, BRING IT ON.
As HAMILTON's reputation as one of this generation's great works of art only increases, perhaps we'll see these on display in a museum someday.
