Shetler Studios and Theatre will present the world premiere of a Dangerous Curves production of Changing Violet, a dramatic one-woman show written by and starring Deborah Louise Ortiz. Changing Violet will play through December at The Bridge Theatre at Shetler Studios (244 West 54th Street, 12th Floor, between Broadway and 8th Ave). Performances begin Thursday, September 21st and continue through December. Opening night is set for Thursday, September 28th (7 p.m.).
"Changing Violet is a moving one-woman piece that takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride through the life of Violet, a young girl from the Bronx. Witness the awkward shifting of a young woman struggling with the painful realities of physical, sexual and mental abuse, and her own abuse of alcohol and drugs as a means of coping. As Violet's life changes, so do her attitudes, her loves, her experiences and her clothing," according to press materials.
Changing Violet will play the following regular schedule: Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 8 p.m. The show is 70 minutes and performed without an intermission. There will be a post-performance discussion with a question-and-answer session.
Also a performer, Ortiz's plays include
Dirty Laundry, as well as
Love in New York, How Do You Know?, which she co-wrote with Carlos Serrano. She is working on her first musical,
PYE, and is also a partner in Dangerous Curves Productions (
dangercurves.com). The company is dedicated to helping women find their voices in theatre.
