Bekah Brunstetter has been in the news a lot lately as her play THE CAKE (Geffen Playhouse, Manhattan Theatre Club) sweeps the nation and for her work on NBC's hit THIS IS US. Previously acclaimed plays like BE A GOOD LITTLE WIDOW, THE OREGON TRAIL and You May Go NOW have created a growing fan base for the playwright.
Original Works Publishing was a very early champion of Brunstetter, releasing her plays You May Go NOW and ROBERTA LAUGHS when she was fresh out of graduate school. "The first time I read her work, back in the early aughts, she immediately became one of my favorite writers. We at OWP felt fortunate to be able to publish her and I am overjoyed that we are able to publish more of her brilliance." said Original Works president Jason Aaron Goldberg. He continued; "You want a unique voice in a playwright and Bekah has a voice like no other. Her ability to play with form and structure, be hysterical and bitter sweet, full of heart and pain, love and loss, all at the same time makes for the kind of experience you hunger for when going to the theatre or reading a play."
Similar to THE CAKE, the new releases are both set in Brunstetter's home state of North Carolina. HEY BROTHER follows at-odds brothers Ben and Isaac as a love triangle unfolds in Ben's beachside home and the object of their desire writes an autobiographical play within the play. LITTLE MAN is a wide ranging high school reunion play centered on Howie, a target of bullying and ridicule ten years prior, now a tech millionaire seeking connection. The heartbreaking comedy takes us on a hilariously awkward and unexpectedly moving journey in which no one can completely abandon who they used to be, no matter how loudly they sing.
