Orchestra of St. Luke’s Continues OSL@DMC Series, 12/13

Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) will continue its OSL@DMC series of free events at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music with a holiday-themed Community Sing on Thursday, December 13, 2012. All are welcome to join in songs and carols accompanied by the musicians of OSL. Host Thomas Cabaniss and conductor David Rosenmeyer will lead the audience in a diverse selection of music written in English, Spanish and Hebrew-from Feliz Navidad to J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio. Between choral selections, the musicians of OSL will perform instrumental interludes from Noëls pour les instruments by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets.

Composer and educator Thomas Cabaniss is noted for his work in opera, theater, dance, film and on the concert stage. When not composing, he helps others compose their own music, especially those who have no musical training at all. He is a frequent collaborator with OSL at Carnegie Hall's Link Up concerts for New York City students.

David Rosenmeyer is an accomplished conductor, vocal coach, pianist and accompanist, renowned for his work with orchestras and opera companies throughout the world. He is Music Director of the Fairfield County Chorale in Connecticut and Associate Conductor with the Oratorio Society of New York. He is also on the Artist Roster of the Carnegie Hall Weill Music Institute, where he works with the Musical Connection series, designing and bringing engaging interactive musical outreach programs to underserved communities.

Through its OSL@DMC series, OSL presents ongoing, free events that connect audiences to the artistic process of composers and musicians. This year's OSL@DMC series began with a Subway Series concert and food drive at The DiMenna Center on September 27, 2012.
The OSL@DMC series will continue on January 11, 2013 with a concert showcasing OSL's new Amateur Musician Project (AMP) and continued partnership with the Amateur Classical Musicians Association (ACMA). On February 28, 2013 American composer Sean Shepherd will preview his new OSL commission along with the musicians of St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble.
Maestro Iván Fischer will return to The DiMenna Center on March 27, 2013 for an OSL@DMC open rehearsal of J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion that will preview his concert with OSL the following evening at Carnegie Hall. The 2012/2013 OSL@DMC series will conclude on April 26, 2013 with a virtual open rehearsal of St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble's Three Part Inventions program hosted by WQXR's Terrance McKnight.
