Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) concludes its 2011/2012 Carnegie Hall Series on Thursday, April 12, 2012 with world renowned conductor Iván Fischer performing two masterworks by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This is Maestro Fischer's second performance with OSL at Carnegie Hall and his only performance as a guest conductor in the United States during the 2011/2012 concert season.
One of the most imaginative forces in the world of classical music today, Mr. Fischer will lead the esteemed musicians of St. Luke's in a program that reveals the maturation and depth of Mozart's style. Beginning with the final symphonic work that Mozart composed in his Salzburg birthplace, Symphony No. 34, the performance will highlight a darkened sonority that developed during Mozart's later years. The symphony will be followed by Mozart's unfinished choral Requiem (as completed by Franz Xaver Süssmayr)-a work that endures as one of the most penetrating reflections on mortality ever written.
A collection of outstanding North American vocalists will join OSL for the Mozart Requiem: soprano Dominique Labelle, mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor, tenor Joseph Kaiser and baritone Richard Paul Fink. One of New York City's most distinguished professional choruses, Musica Sacra, under the direction of Kent Tritle, will make their debut with OSL at this performance.
OSL's recently-announced 2012/2013 Carnegie Hall series will feature a third collaboration with Maestro Fischer-performing J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Soprano Dominique Labelle and Musica Sacra will also be featured on that program, along with tenor John Tessier and bass-baritone Hanno Müller-Brachmann.
