An open casting call will be held for the Baltimore production of The Awesome 80s Prom.  On Monday, August 15 at 9:30 AM, the– line will form at Eutaw and Fayette Streets; the auditions will be held at the  M&T Bank Pavilion in the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center (12 N. Eutaw Street) Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, August 16th (with rehearsals for the show commencing on September 8th and the show opening the same month on the 27th).

The show's producers are seeking "exuberant performers who are skilled improvisational actor/comedians. Must have strong comedic instincts and the ability to “work a room.”  Special skills (break dancing, cheerleading, etc.) encouraged."  Auditioners should "prepare a short contemporary comic monologue, preferably from a 80s teen movie. If available, please provide a headshot and resume."  The following roles will be cast:

BLAKE: The Captain of the Football Team.  Charming, egotistical jock.  Think “Jake” in 16 Candles.
LOUIS: The Nerd.  Introverted, computer geek.  Think Anthony Michael Hall in 16 Candles.
FENDER: The Bad Boy.  Mean, defensive, loud.  Think Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club.
MICHAEL JAY: The Class President.  A young Republican, a born politician.  A Guy-Smiley game show host type.  Think Michael J. Fox on Family Ties.
FEUNG: The Asian Exchange Student.  Charismatic, speaks little English.  Think Long Duk Dong in 16 Candles.
DICKIE: The Drama Queen.  Flamboyant, fabulous and bitter.  Sings “Don’t Rain on My Parade” like Barbra Streisand.  Think Ducky in Pretty in Pink mixed with Jack from Will & Grace.
KELK: A Football player.  Big and intimidating, but not too bright.  Think Chris Farley.
WHITLEY: The Head Cheerleader. Sexy, bitchy and vain.  Must cheer/dance.
KERRIE: The Spaz.  A sweet but hyper nerd.  Wears headgear.  In love with Blake.
MISSY: The Head of the Prom Committee.  Perfect.  Way too perky.  Think Reese Witherspoon in Election.
INGA: The Swedish Exchange Student. Tall and voluptuous.  Speaks with heavy accent.
HEATHER #1: Cheerleader #1.  Whitley’s backup cheerleader.  Must cheer/dance.  Understudies Inga.
HEATHER #2: Cheerleader #2.  Whitley’s other backup cheerleader.  Must cheer/dance.  Understudies Whitley.
MRS. LASCALZO: The Drama Teacher. A leftover hippie who loves everyone.  A little clueless.
MR. SNELGROVE: The Principal.  A fascist dictator.  Think The Principal in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
LLOYD: The Photographer.  Understudy for Louis/Michael Jay/Dickie.
MOLLY: The Freshman.  Understudy for Heathers/Kerrie/Missy
JOHNNY HUGHES: The DJ.  Extremely charismatic host who can warm up a crowd.  Runs dance contest, etc.  Understudy for Blake/Fender.
MYSTERY GUEST STAR:  Any 80s impersonators.  Michael Jackson, Prince, MC Hammer, Prince, Vanilla Ice, etc.  Live performance preferred by lip syncing ok.  Must have very strong visual resemblance and dynamic three minute performance.
BREAKDANCER:  A “plant” who pretends he/she is an audience member then tears it up in the breakdance circle.  May understudy.  Must have strong routine.  Windmills preferred.

The Awesome 80s Prom "is a brand new interactive experience in the style of Tony n’ Tina’s WeddingThe Donkey Show set at Wanaget High’s Senior Prom… in 1989.  The Prom is currently running Off-Broadway in New York and in Minneapolis!  All your favorite characters from your favorite ‘80s movies are at THE PROM, from the Captain of the Football Team to the Asian Exchange Student, from the Geek to the hottie Head Cheerleader, and they'’re all competing for Prom King and Queen. And just like on “American Idol,” the audience decides who wins, all while moonwalking’ to great retro hits like “'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'” and 'Wake Me Up Before You Go Go!”'"
