An open casting call will be held for Equity and non-Equity singers of all cultural backgrounds for the title role in TARZAN®, The Broadway Musical, to be presented this season by Disney Theatrical Productions.

The open call will be on Monday, August 29th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Here Arts Center, 145 Sixth Avenue between Spring Street and Broome Street. Sign-in begins at 8:30 AM.

Two-time Tony Award® winner Bob Crowley (Aida, Carousel), will direct and design sets and costumes for TARZAN®. Oscar® and six-time GRAMMY® Award winner Phil Collins has written the music and lyrics, expanding his songs for Disney's film into a complete theatre score. Tony Award®-winner David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly), has written the book, adapted from the screenplay by Tab Murphy, Bob Tzudiker and Noni White and based on the novel, Tarzan of the Apes, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Choreography is by Meryl Tankard, with aerial movement by Pichon Baldinu (De La Guarda). Lighting design is by Tony Award®-winner Natasha Katz (Aida) and sound design is by John Shivers. Other members of the creative team include Paul Bogaev (Music Producer/Vocal Arrangements) and Doug Besterman (Orchestrations).

For the role of Tarzan, the production is seeking a thrilling pop/rock singer to play in his 20s. Caught between the world of gorillas and the world of humans, Tarzan is a human raised by a family of apes in the African jungle. We must identify with him and care about him and his emotional journey. He is charming, sexy, vulnerable, animal-like, mysterious and has lots of humanity. He is physically lean, but toned, like a swimmer; he is NOT a muscle man, as in the traditional Tarzan type. He should have strong upper body strength and be physical, agile, fearless and very comfortable with movement and tackling aerial work. His body must be at one with the environment.

Auditioners should prepare 16 bars of a contemporary pop/rock song showing vocal range, to sing a cappella. They should bring sheet music, in case they are asked to sing with a pianist. They should bring a photo or snapshot, with resume stapled together.

Those unable to attend should mail photo and resume for future audition consideration to TARZAN® Casting, 145 West 28th Street, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10001.

TARZAN® will open in Spring, 2006, at a theatre to be announced.
