Open Bar Theatricals announces its cast for the world premiere of GRUDGICAL, the new parody musical by Aaron Michael Krueger and Peej Mele.
The cast of the reading features Kelsey Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Yoko Hyun (Kayako Saeki), Laura Dadap (Yoko Ohno), Nolan Muña (Wiji), Tríona O'Callaghan (Geisha), Neil Dingow (Queer), Tim Chan (Jeff/Ensemble), Kevin Scott (Freddie/Ensemble), and Sharon Lam (Asian Schoolgirl/Ensemble). Direction and musical direction will be supervised by Stephanie Estep, EJ Marotta, and Seth Ward Pyatt.
GRUDGICAL, the third and final installment in this summer's fellowship, will have one public performance on Monday, August 31st at TheaterLab, 357 36th Street at 7pm. Admission is free but advanced reservations are strongly recommended. Following the performance, there will be a talk-back discussion and, true to their name, an open bar.
The musical, based on "The Grudge" movies and other Japanese horror films, is part of Open Bar's 2015 First Round Fellowship, in which three shows out of 70 submissions were chosen to undergo a month-long rehearsal process and receive a minimally staged reading. Included in the fellowship are rehearsal/performance space, artistic guidance, technical support, and a stipend for the playwright. Out of the three titles, one will be selected to receive a fully-staged workshop production.
