WLTW's Valerie Smaldone to Host Behind the Curtain: One Wicked Night with Stephen Schwartz

Two Sides of a Coin Productions in association with New York's One and Only Lite Music Station, 106.7 Lite fm, will host an evening celebrating musical theatre entitled Behind the Curtain: One Wicked Night with Stephen Schwartz and Valerie Smaldone. The event will take place on Monday, November 1st , 8:00PM, at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, 68th and Lexington Avenue, Manhattan.

Behind the Curtain: One Wicked Night with Stephen Schwartz and Valerie Smaldone will feature a candid look at the lyricist and composer of one of the hottest shows in town. A Broadway enthusiast, Smaldone approached Schwartz for the informal chat that will reflect on his Broadway experiences and include a live performance. A Special VIP Ticket is available for $125, with a portion benefiting the Actors' Fund. VIP Ticket price includes premium seating, post show reception and exclusive meet and greet with Schwartz.

"What a thrill it will be to share a stage with Stephen and hear his great stories about creating music for both the Broadway stage and the silver screen, " stated Valerie Smaldone, WLTW Personality and President of Two Sides of a Coin Productions. "One of the most brilliant and prolific composer/lyricists of our time, Stephen is also a singer in his own right and will be performing his compositions along with some friends from the Great White Way. It promises to be a casual and fun evening as we spend time with one of the creators of the smash hit musical, Wicked!"

Tickets for the event can be purchased at The Kaye Playhouse box office from 12-6pm Monday through Saturday or by calling 212-772-4448. Ticket prices are: $45 for General Admission; $35 for Students, Seniors, and Actors' Equity Members; and $125 VIP Tickets that includes admission and a special after party reception. A portion of the VIP tickets will benefit the Actor's Fund. ***Special group rates are available. ***

About the talent:

Stephen Schwartz has contributed music and/or lyrics to GODSPELL, PIPPIN , THE MAGIC SHOW, THE BAKER'S WIFE, WORKING (which he also adapted and directed), PERSONALS, RAGS, CHILDREN OF EDEN and the current Broadway hit, WICKED. He collaborated with Leonard Bernstein on the English texts for Bernstein's MASS and wrote the title song for the play and movie BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE. For children, he has written a one-act musical, THE TRIP, and a picture book, THE PERFECT PEACH. For films, he collaborated with Alan Menken on the scores for the Disney animated features POCAHONTAS and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME and wrote the songs for the DreamWorks animated feature THE PRINCE OF EGYPT. He provided music and lyrics for the original television musical, GEPPETTO, seen on The Wonderful World of Disney , and has released two CDs of new songs entitled RELUCTANT PILGRIM and UNCHARTED TERRITORY. Mr. Schwartz is the recipient of three Academy Awards, three Grammy Awards, three Drama Desk Awards, and a tiny handful of tennis trophies. http://www.stephenschwartz.com

Valerie Smaldone is a five time Billboard Magazine award winner, best known for her unprecedented success holding the #1 position in the New York radio market as mid-day host of 106.7 Lite-FM. In addition, Ms. Smaldone has appeared on television as a host and actress, and has co-written and produced her original play with music, Spit It Out!, in which she co-starred. Along with her business partner, Smaldone has founded a production company, dedicated to encompassing women based projects from the theatrical arena to recordings and live events. An active voice in fundraising, she has served as celebrity spokesperson for the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance for the past two years. She is also a sought after public speaker and event host.
