The off-Broadway musical hit Once Around the Sun will soon be glowing on a Broadway stage.

The rock musical would open in fall 2006 at a theatre to be named. "Our run at the Zipper Theatre was the initial part of the process in readying the show for Broadway. We are thrilled with the audience response to this musical. After our run at the Zipper concludes, we are all ready to roll up our sleeves and prepare Once Around the Sun for Broadway audiences in fall 2006," stated producer Barry Funt.

Once Around the Sun, which opened at the Zipper Theatre (336 West 37th Street) on August 11th, takes "an honest, intimate, and irreverent look at one man's efforts to define himself as an artist and find his voice as a man. It has an original score that includes rock, pop and swing." With music and lyrics by Steven and Robert Morris and Joe Shane, and a book by Kellie Overbey, Once Around the Sun is directed by Jace Alexander (director of off-Bway's Snakebit, Lee Harvey Oswald in the original Assassins). The show stars Maya Days (Aida, Jesus Christ Superstar), John Hickok (Little Women, Parade), Jesse Lenat (Floyd Collins), Kevin Mambo, Caren Lyn Manuel (Brooklyn, Rent) and Asa Somers (Dance of the Vampires, The Rocky Horror Show).

Beowulf Borritt (sets), Daniel Lawson (costumes), Jason Lyons (lighting), and T. Richard Fitzgerald (sound) comprise the show's design team, while Henry Aronson provides musical direction and David Spinozza musical supervision.

Once Around the Sun's performance schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings at 8 PM, Saturdays at 5 and 9 PM and Sundays at 3 and 7 PM. Tickets, which are $60, can be purchased by calling (212) 239 6200. In addition, some mezzanine seats can be obtained at a minimum donation of $10, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross.
