As part of its Books and Ideas series, on Tuesday, November 12, at 7 p.m., the Onassis Cultural Center NY will present a special dialogue on tyranny and freedom in today's world, featuring Waller Newell, professor of political science and philosophy at Carleton University; Ryan Balot, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto; and Barry Strauss, Bryce and Edith M. Bowmar Professor in Humanist Studies at Cornell University. The dialogue will take place at The New York Public Library, South Court Auditorium, Fifth Avenue at 42nd Street.
The discussion, marking the recent publication by Cambridge University Press of Professor Newell's book Tyranny: A New Interpretation will focus on the contest in today's world between tyranny and freedom, touching on the history of democratic self-government in ancient Greece and the threats posed to democracy today.
Admission is free. Advance reservations are recommended at reservations@onassisusa.org, starting on October 31.
