OnStage Blog Welcomes New Critics for New York City Area

OnStage Blog has announced its new staff of theatre critics for the Greater New York City Area. The staff consists of David Roberts, Asya Danilova and John P. McCarthy.

David Roberts will continue in the role of Chief New York Theatre Critic, a role he's served in since 2016. Mr. Roberts has been a critic for OnStage Blog since 2014. David brings his experience as an English Literature, Playwriting and Composition teacher to assess the structure and literary value of a performance. With his partner, Joseph Verlezza, they created Theatre Reviews Limited, which was originally launched in 1997 as one of the first online websites dedicated to reviewing Broadway, Off and Off-Off Broadway, Cabaret, and Theatre Festivals in New York City. Mr. Roberts will be reviewing theatre productions in New York City.

Asya Danilova has been promoted to Associate New York Theatre Critic. Ms. Danilova has been a contributing critic for OnStage Blog since 2016. In addition to reviewing theatre, Ms. Danilova is a New York based photographer and behind-the-scenes videographer for film and theater. She started a theater review blog, "New Show New York", because of her passion for theater and background in art and film criticism. Ms. Danilova will be reviewing theatre productions in New York City.

John P. McCarthy has also been promoted to Associate New York Theatre Critic. Mr. McCarthy has been a contributing critic for OnStage Bog since 2016. He is a freelance writer and theater critic based in Westchester County, NY. His work has appeared in Daily Variety and Variety, Time Out New York, Boxoffice, and TV Guide. He has contributed theater reviews to The Journal News, the Gannett paper covering the Lower Hudson Valley; and from 1999-2010 he was editor and publisher of Cineman Syndicate, which provided newspapers and online outlets with movie reviews and entertainment features. John is a graduate of Georgetown University. Mr. McCarthy will be primarily reviewing theatre productions in the Hudson Valley, Western CT and New York City.
