On the Line, a new play by Joe Roland, will begin performances at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) on April 4th. The play is directed by Peter Sampieri and will have a limited engagement though April 23rd. The opening is set for April 12th.

The show will be presented by Mike Nichols, Jill Furman and Boyett Ostar Productions. Nichols said: "Presenting a play is a rare thing for me since I am a director and rarely a producer. This play is one I am proud to present."

On the Line "is a new play about three lifelong friends growing up in a world which has changed with a vengeance. A comedic start leads to a startling and powerful finish," according to press notes. Featured in the cast are David Prete, Joe Roland and John Zibell. Sets are designed by Michael McGarty, with sound by Peter Hurowitz and lighting by Brian Lilienthal. Rachel Neuburger is the associate producer.

The playing schedule for On the Line is as follows: Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8PM, Sundays at 7PM, with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3PM. Tickets are $36.00. For tickets call Telecharge at (212) 239-6200.
