WWD confirmed that Old Navy has hired Sarah Holme in the role of vice president of women's design. Holme will become a key player in helping the brand with their overseas expansion and development of "a global collection."
said Jill Stanton, the chain's executive vice president of global product design and development, described global collection as, "Essentially, it's one broad line that each of the countries selects from."
Old Navy opened it's first store in China on Saturday on Shanghai's Nanjing West Road while Gap, Inc. simultaneously debuted it's e-commerce site for China. Their plan for 2014 is to open five units in China, concentrating on Shanghai first.
"This is it! China is where the apparel growth is and bringing Old Navy here is a central part of our global strategy," Robert Frank, Old Navy's executive vice president of international, said. "This is the hopping off point to make it work for the rest of Asia."
Holme will be the new head of Old Navy's women's design, which represents about 50 percent of their volume.
Holme comes to Old Navy from U.K. based Jack Wills where she served as creative director. She has also worked at Laura Ashley and Abercrombie & Fitch.
